At Mercury, our purpose—Innovation that matters—is deeply rooted in our commitment to global security and ensuring that critical technologies are accessible to enable and support the brave men and women who carry the mantle of freedom. This commitment does not end when our technologies are deployed. I believe we have an obligation to continue our support for service members, even after their time of service has ended, especially when they face physical and emotional scars that can impact the rest of their lives.
I recently had the opportunity to participate in the annual Run to Home Base fundraiser run/walk, which Mercury was proud to sponsor. While the run is an annual event held in Boston, Home Base is a national organization that helps our veterans returning from conflict, and their families, who are dealing with the hidden wounds of war.
About Run to Home Base
Each year the organization highlights different factions of the military community. This year, Home Base honored the service and sacrifice of women veterans and service members, who have seen the highest increase in suicide rates according to the latest VA report.
Events such as Run to Home Base play a crucial role in raising awareness and funds for programs dedicated to assisting veterans in their transition back to civilian life. The proceeds generated from this event are directed towards essential services, including mental health support and job placement, guaranteeing that those who have made significant sacrifices receive the support they deserve.
The Day of Run to Home Base
The energy at the event is palpable — a blend of camaraderie, respect, and shared purpose. As I walked alongside veterans, their families, and fellow supporters, I couldn’t help but reflect on the sacrifices made by so many. Each step we took was in honor of those who selflessly served our nation and the world.
Extending Our Efforts
As we strive to cultivate a philanthropic culture within Mercury, there remains a considerable amount of work ahead. Our collective objective this year is to concentrate our endeavors on matters that extend beyond the confines of Mercury. Run to Home Base was a powerful reminder of the significance of community and helped reinforce my commitment to providing more diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and services at Mercury.
This year’s Run to Home Base raised more than $3.3 million for our military community. To join us in embracing this cause, you can sign up to participate next year. Together, we can make a difference, not just for those who have served, but for future generations as well.
